Trooper Clay Carns was on-duty in Troop 3 when he stopped for debris in the roadway near I-55. Trooper Carns was outside of his vehicle when he was struck by a pick-up truck in traffic. He was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Trooper Clay Carns served with the Illinois State Police for 11 years. He was one of the 100 Club of Illinois 2024 Valor Award recipients. Trooper Carns was an asset to the Illinois State Police and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, two children, siblings, and parents.
