On January 24, 1973 Sergeant Michael Maguire was found shot in the parking area of Martha Washington Hospital. Around 9:00 p.m. a hospital security guard heard three shots being fired and found the wounded sergeant with his gun and badge near him. It is theorized that the sergeant stumbled across a robbery-in-progress because a ladder was found leaning into the hospital records room. A man was also seen running from the hospital. The sergeant died en route from Martha Washington Hospital to Ravenswood Hospital for emergency neurosurgery.
He was survived by his wife and three children.
