Written by 100Clubillinois

On March 5, 1982, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter Robert Danaher of Hook and Ladder Company 52 died in the line of duty while operating at a house fire. A nineteen year veteran, Danaher was one of the first firefighters to enter the burning house, helping to carry out a woman in a wheelchair. Believing there were more people trapped in the house, Danaher and another firefighter reentered the burning building, where Danaher collapsed from smoke inhalation and suffered a heart attack. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
