On September 12, 1992 Firefighter Richard C. Heller with the Elk Grove Fire Protection District lost his life after suffering a heart attack while fighting a fire at Touhy Mobile Home Park in unincorporated Elk Grove Township. 

Heller was with the department for more than five years and was said to be “one of the hardest working, most diligent firefighters” Fire Chief Gary Jensen has ever known.  

From 1963 to 1969, Heller was with the Chicago Fire Department before becoming an on-call firefighter with Elk Grove.  

Richard Heller is survived by his wife, son, and three daughters.
