“He’s like a big kid, real enthusiastic. Just a wonderful young man. Kept himself in very good shape. Great physical condition. Just a great firefighter. Everybody loved working with him” (Chief Michael McCormick).

Firefighter/EMT Andrew “Drew” Price died while battling a fire the morning of November 13, 2023.

Authorities say the incident began around 5:30 a.m. when firefighters responded to a reported kitchen fire in the 2400 block of Lincoln Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews saw little smoke but sent firefighters to the roof for ventilation. As the situation escalated, smoke intensified, prompting a full evacuation and fire suppression efforts.

“There were still hot spots when the tragedy occurred,” said 12th Battalion Chief Michael McCormick.

A mayday was called after Firefighter Price fell down a light shaft. He was initially responsive but difficult to reach. Crews broke through a wall to get to him, administered CPR, and transported him to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

He is survived by his wife and extended family. He will always be remembered as a “light of sunshine” and “great firefighter”.
