On Wednesday, September 30, 2020 Firefighter Dylan Cunningham, 29, died in the line of duty following a dive training exercise at Haigh Quarry in Kankakee. The incident took place at Haigh Quarry.

Officials said a 911 call came in around 9:30 p.m., alerting Kankakee County dispatchers that Cunningham was critically distressed. Bourbonnais Fire Department responded, stepping in as others tried to offer aid. Cunningham died at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday at Northwestern Hospital.

He is survived by his fiancé and baby on the way.
