Officer John Bartholomew of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Albany Park (17th) District, was critically injured in the line of duty on April 25, 2026 during a shooting inside Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital on Chicago’s north side at approximately 10:50 a.m. local time.
Officer Bartholomew and another officer had transported a suspect to the hospital for observation when the suspect obtained a gun and fired, striking both officers. Both officers were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where Bartholomew succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Bartholomew began his career with the Chicago Police Department 10 years prior.
Our thoughts are with the Bartholomew family and the Chicago Police Department during this incredibly difficult time.
