Captain David Meyer

April 23, 2025

Captain David Meyer was battling a garage fire on April 23, 2025, on Chicago’s West Side when a roof beam collapsed, critically injuring him. He was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Captain Meyer served with the Chicago Fire Department since 1996 and was most recently assigned to Truck 29. He was a devoted firefighter, a skilled carpenter, and a respected leader. Outside of work, he was an avid fisherman and motorcyclist who cherished time with his family and friends.

He leaves behind his wife and four children. Captain Meyer will be deeply missed by his loved ones, his department, and the city he so bravely served.

Our thoughts are with the Meyer family and the Chicago Fire Department during this incredibly difficult time.
