The Chicago Police Department is comprised of 10,000 agency members, with 200 peer support members, serving law enforcement officers and support staff. Their Peer Support program originated in 2000. Members are trained through peer support curriculums, including Crisis Associates, and peer support members are to complete 8 hours of continuing education annually.
Aside from peer support, other wellness programs that the department offers includes EAP, an in-house clinician, an in-house chaplain, therapy K9s, wellness spaces, annual mental wellness checks, and family resources.
The department’s peer support coordinators are available to coordinate assistance to outside agencies for one on one peer support requests and program development or implementation collaboration.
