Tuesday September 5, 2017, Officer Domagala succumbed to complications from a gunshot wound inflicted in the line of duty on July 14, 1988. Officer Domagala is survived by his wife and three sons.

While on duty as a member of the Hostage, Barricade, and Terrorist Unit (HBT), Officer Domagala was involved in an 8 hour barricade standoff. During the standoff, the offender shot at and struck Officer Domagala. Officer Domagala underwent surgery to remove the bullet but was never able to fully recover from his injuries.
